Listening to the Stories of Others

CLICK ON THE IMAGE TO SEE ENTIRE PDF.

Audience: This was originally created for a group of Christians from different racial backgrounds within a church setting.

Format: 2 page handout

Description: Starting with reading 1 Corinthians 12 (about unity & diversity within the body of Christ), this handout describes common responses one might have when challenged with another person’s story and suggests less-reactionary responses. It concludes with 2 short prayers asking God to open our hearts and make space for other people’s stories.

Purpose: This handout was created as an introduction to another activity: Writing and Sharing Racial Autobiographies. Prior to having students share their personal stories, this handout was used to help set expectations for listening and responding.
